His boots, scuffed and worn, echoed against the wet pavement as he ducked into a narrow alley, his breath ragged.<\/p>\n

\u201cNash,\u201d a voice crackled in his ear. It was Miko, his only ally left in this damned city. \u201cThey\u2019re closing in. You\u2019ve got maybe thirty seconds before the drones lock onto your signal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat,\u201d Kaden muttered, his voice dripping with sarcasm. He adjusted the thin, metallic earpiece embedded in his lobe, its surface catching the faint glow of a nearby neon sign. \u201cAnything else you wanna drop on me?\u201d<\/p>\n
