Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez<\/a> won’t participate in this year’s Home Run Derby despite leading the American League in round-trippers.<\/p>\n

“I’m still open (to participating) but not this year,” Alvarez said Sunday, according to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old didn’t reveal if he’d been asked to take part in this year’s event, which had its format revamped<\/a> by MLB.<\/p>\n

Alvarez has never participated in the Home Run Derby but did receive an invite in 2022. He ultimately missed the event due to a hand injury sustained prior to the Midsummer Classic.<\/p>\n

Alvarez, the top All-Star vote-getter among AL players at DH, is hitting .322\/.428\/.640 with 25 homers and 56 RBIs this season.<\/p>\n
