Emily Simpson was looking red-hot at the Season 20 premiere party for \u201cThe Real Housewives of Orange County,\u201d where she chatted with \u201cExtra\u2019s\u201d special correspondent Bozoma Saint John on the carpet. <\/p>\n
The \u201cRHOC\u201d star opened up about putting her marriage and family life on display and whether there are moments she wishes hadn\u2019t played out on camera. <\/p>\n
\u201cHere\u2019s the thing, I\u2019ve been married to the same man for 17 years,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have amazing ups and we have downs and we have never altered our behavior on camera. So, you know what? The audience can think what they want, to say what they want, but it is a real marriage.\u201d <\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cWe\u2019re not pretending. We\u2019re not trying to sugar coat it. We\u2019re not trying to get along because the cameras just got there. We\u2019re like living life and trying to be parents, and trying to navigate marriage, and trying to navigate kids. And I have a son who has lots of issues and it\u2019s not easy. And so, you know, it is what it is. It\u2019s a real marriage with ups and downs, and all the things.\u201d <\/p>\n
Despite the challenges, she emphasized, \u201cI think at the end of the day, I married my best friend.\u201d <\/p>\n
With the milestone 20th season approaching, Emily described the new season in two words: \u201cOld school.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like it goes back to like old school \u2018Housewives\u2019 \u2014 like why \u2018Housewives\u2019 was popular in the beginning back [in the] 2006 era with Victoria Gunvalson in her little family van, and fighting over petty things, and crazy women that drink too much but really love each other at the end of the day,\u201d she explained. \u201cThat\u2019s what it felt like for me.\u201d <\/p>\n
Speaking of Vicki Gunvalson, the original Housewife is back this season. Emily explained why she refers to her as \u201cVictoria\u201d rather than \u201cVicki.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cI came on Season 13 with Victoria, and I feel like she expects and demands respect,\u201d she shared. \u201cSo, I was very respectful. So, I always call her Victoria or Queen Victoria. And she deserves it.\u201d <\/p>\n
The \u201cRHOC\u201d star also reflected on turning 50. <\/p>\n
\u201cI turned 50 right before we started filming, and so my goal was to be in the best shape I’ve ever been in,\u201d Emily shared. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Real Housewives of Orange County\u201d premieres July 9 on Bravo. <\/p>\n
