Michigan guard LJ Cason<\/a> plans to enter the transfer portal following former head coach Dusty May’s abrupt departure for the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, he told On3’s Joe Tipton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cason, a three-star recruit out of high school, emerged as one of the nation’s top backup point guards last season before suffering a torn ACL in February.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-2 floor general averaged 8.4 points, 2.4 assists, and 1.9 rebounds across 28 appearances in 2025-26. He shot 40.2% from deep and 50.3% from the field.<\/p>\n

The portal will open July 15 – five days after Mike Boynton’s official appointment as May’s successor – for a 15-day period.<\/p>\n

A number of other Wolverines players have already committed to staying in Ann Arbor, including starting guards Elliot Cadeau and Trey McKenney<\/a>.<\/p>\n
