Seattle Mariners reliever Gabe Speier<\/a> received a three-game suspension and a fine of an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres<\/a> during Wednesday’s game, MLB announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

Speier is appealing the suspension, which means he’s eligible to play until the process has been completed.<\/p>\n

Mariners manager Dan Wilson was also handed a one-game ban and fined an undisclosed amount. The skipper will serve his punishment during Thursday’s finale of the series.<\/p>\n

Speier hit Torres in the eighth inning of Seattle’s 4-2 win. The incident prompted the benches to clear, but no punches were thrown. The left-hander and Wilson were ejected during the fracas.<\/p>\n

The Mariners appeared to take exception after Cal Raleigh<\/a> was hit in the seventh. <\/p>\n

“I guess they protected Raleigh,” Torres said postgame, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com<\/a>. “I don’t think we hit Raleigh on purpose. But that’s baseball. That’s their guy and I know they try to protect him.”<\/p>\n

He added: “I don’t try to fight with nobody. I’m not that type of guy. It is what it is. It’s all good.”<\/p>\n

Mariners starter Bryan Woo<\/a> also hit three other Tigers earlier in the game.<\/p>\n
