{"id":15252506,"date":"2026-08-13T00:28:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T04:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.inthacity.com\/news\/taylor-farms-recalls-salsa-guacamole-products-with-jalapenos-due-to-salmonella\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T00:33:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T04:33:23","slug":"taylor-farms-recalls-salsa-guacamole-products-with-jalapenos-due-to-salmonella","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.inthacity.com\/news\/taylor-farms-recalls-salsa-guacamole-products-with-jalapenos-due-to-salmonella\/","title":{"rendered":"Taylor Farms Recalls Salsa, Guacamole Products With Jalape\u00f1os Due to Salmonella"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1296\" height=\"728\" src=\"https:\/\/media.post.rvohealth.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/getty_2254126529_header_1296x728.jpg\" alt=\"Jalapeno pepers\" class=\"wp-image-4892114\" \/><figcaption>Jalape\u00f1o peppers supplied by Taylor Farms and sold at major U.S. retailers like Whole Foods have been linked to Salmonella. anand purohit\/Moment\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Several Taylor Farms products containing jalape\u00f1o peppers have been recalled due to concerns about Salmonella contamination.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The recall affects prepared foods distributed across 26 states, and at least 345 cases and 36 hospitalizations have been reported.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Consumers are advised to check their fridges and discard any recalled products immediately.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An ongoing food safety investigation into the potential source of a <em>Salmonella javiana<\/em> outbreak across the United States has implicated a produce supplier for the second time in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Farms has recalled prepared foods containing jalape\u00f1os from major retailers in several states, including Walmart, Whole Foods, and Target.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The affected products include popular refrigerated foods like salsa, guacamole, dips, burritos, and sandwiches. <\/p>\n<p>This comes after Taylor Farms was previously linked to the ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health-news\/cdc-warns-explosive-diarrhea-parasite-protect-yourself\">cyclospora outbreak<\/a> that has sickened thousands, in which the supplier recalled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/food-nutrition\/iceberg-lettuce\">iceberg lettuce<\/a> sold at fast-food restaurant chains like Taco Bell.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now, the Salmonella outbreak linked to jalape\u00f1os sourced from Coast Citrus Distributors and supplied by Taylor Farms has consumers on edge. <\/p>\n<p>Fast-casual restaurant chains like Chipotle and Qdoba, which had previously carried the peppers in several locations, recently <a href=\"\/health-news\/chipotle-pulls-jalapenos-from-restaurants-salmonella-outbreak\">pulled them from their restaurants nationwide<\/a> out of an abundance of caution.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Taylor Fresh Foods, the manufacturer of Taylor Farms products, is no longer sourcing jalape\u00f1os from Coast Citrus Distributors and will be relying on alternative suppliers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As of August 10, the Salmonella outbreak <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/outbreaks-foodborne-illness\/outbreak-investigation-salmonella-jalapeno-august-2026?\">sickened 345 people<\/a> and hospitalized 36 across 27 states, according to the FDA. No deaths have been reported.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Jalape\u00f1os linked to Salmonella distributed in 26 states&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The FDA has been investigating the Salmonella outbreak since late July.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Federal regulators traced the source of the outbreak to fresh jalape\u00f1os from Sinaloa, Mexico, which were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors, prompting a recall, followed by recalls of products made with the peppers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On August 8, the USDA\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/recalls-alerts\/fsis-issues-public-health-alert-various-meat-and-poultry-products-containing-fda-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public health alert<\/a> covering certain meat and poultry products containing the recalled jalape\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Fresh Foods issued a recall on August 9 after the contaminated peppers entered the supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>The recalled Taylor products were distributed to retail centers in 26 states: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alabama<\/li>\n<li>Arkansas<\/li>\n<li>Florida<\/li>\n<li>Georgia<\/li>\n<li>Illinois<\/li>\n<li>Indiana<\/li>\n<li>Kansas<\/li>\n<li>Kentucky<\/li>\n<li>Louisiana<\/li>\n<li>Massachusetts<\/li>\n<li>Maine<\/li>\n<li>Michigan<\/li>\n<li>Minnesota<\/li>\n<li>Missouri<\/li>\n<li>Mississippi<\/li>\n<li>Nebraska<\/li>\n<li>New Hampshire<\/li>\n<li>New York<\/li>\n<li>Ohio<\/li>\n<li>Oklahoma<\/li>\n<li>South Carolina<\/li>\n<li>Tennessee<\/li>\n<li>Texas<\/li>\n<li>Vermont<\/li>\n<li>Wisconsin<\/li>\n<li>West Virginia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stores that received the affected products include Hannaford, Kroger, Stop &amp; Shop, Target, Trader Joe\u2019s, Walmart and Whole Foods.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/outbreaks-foodborne-illness\/outbreak-investigation-salmonella-jalapeno-august-2026?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FDA<\/a>, the recalled products have \u201cBest If Used By\u201d dates up to and including August 16, 2026.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Consumers should take this recall seriously, but there is no reason to avoid every Taylor Farms product,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/faculty.medicine.hofstra.edu\/6252-robert-glatter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Robert Glatter<\/a>, MD, attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra\/Northwell.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The concern is limited to the specific jalape\u00f1o-containing products and date or lot codes listed in the recall,&#8221; Glatter told Healthline.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Which products containing jalape\u00f1os are affected?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The recall includes salsa and guacamole products, pico de gallo, dips, burritos, sandwiches, and other prepared foods that contain the recalled jalape\u00f1os.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Farms has included product-specific information, such as UPCs and dates, on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taylorfarms.com\/recall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recall page<\/a>. Taylor Farms couldn\u2019t immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Concerned consumers should closely check the packaging of products they suspect may be linked to the outbreak.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If a product matches the recalled UPC and date information, you should throw it away or return it to the retailer for a refund.<\/p>\n<p>After handling a recalled product, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/washing-hands\">wash your hands<\/a> thoroughly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Clean and sanitize refrigerator surfaces, countertops, cutting boards, utensils, and containers that may have come into contact with the contaminated food. <\/p>\n<p>The FDA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/outbreaks-foodborne-illness\/food-safety-tips-consumers-retailers-during-outbreak-foodborne-illness\">recommends<\/a> washing surfaces first and then sanitizing them to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Glatter recommended keeping recalled food away from other foods.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/consumers\/consumer-updates\/are-you-storing-food-safely\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">advises<\/a> keeping refrigerators at or below 40\u00b0F and refrigerating perishable foods promptly, following the 2-hour rule, or 1 hour when outside temperatures exceed 90\u00b0F.<\/p>\n<p>It is not advised to rely on appearance, smell, or taste to determine whether a product is safe, since food contaminated with Salmonella can look and smell normal. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Do not eat, taste, rinse, or try to remove the jalape\u00f1os from a recalled product,&#8221; Glatter said.<\/p>\n<h2>What are the symptoms of Salmonella?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/salmonella-enterocolitis\">Salmonella infection<\/a> may cause various symptoms, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>diarrhea<\/li>\n<li>fever<\/li>\n<li>abdominal cramps<\/li>\n<li>nausea and vomiting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Symptoms usually develop within hours or, at times, several days after exposure and may last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/salmonella\/signs-symptoms\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4\u20137 days<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Most people recover from Salmonella infection without treatment, but some illnesses may require hospitalization.<\/p>\n<p>Young children, adults 65 and older, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/autoimmune-disorders\">immunocompromised individuals<\/a> are at greater risk for severe illness. If you\u2019re experiencing severe or persistent symptoms, you should contact a healthcare professional.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important to seek medical advice for bloody diarrhea, fever above 102\u00b0F, dehydration, worsening abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, or inability to keep fluids down,&#8221; Glatter said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inmi-source\">Source: <a
