We’re heading into the stretch of August where a l<\/a><\/span>ightweight jacket<\/span><\/a> earns its place by the door. Something easy to throw on when a cool breeze turns up, but not yet a coat that has to do any real work. I look for the one that goes over almost anything, a colorful sundress, an easy set, even just a T-shirt and jeans. It gives my look a clean frame and a little more dimension while the weather figures itself out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve put together this edit around the four directions I think a transitional jacket can go. A <\/span>trench<\/span><\/a>, which brings in a crisp, longer line. <\/span>Suede<\/span><\/a>, which warms a look up. <\/span>Denim<\/span><\/a>, for casual structure. And a <\/span>barn<\/span><\/a> or <\/span>linen jacket<\/span><\/a>, which is really the whole idea, an outer piece that feels completely unfussy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every one of them finishes an outfit a little differently, and each one feels like it was reached for with intention, even if you grabbed it on your way out the door.<\/span><\/p>\n
