SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A candlelight procession in Springfield’s South End brought the Italian community together in faith and celebration.
Springfield’s Italian feast returns after 20 years
The procession honored their patron, ‘Our Lady of Mount Carmel,’ also known as “Madonna,” in advance of their feast day.
Dozens joined in, holding candles, and walked to the Columbus Statue to pray the rosary and to the Blessed Mother. For many, it’s a tradition they hold close to their hearts. Maria Vonhollander of Agawam told 22News, “We love to eat, drink, be together, pray for Madonna. And the Madonna is going across. Just praying for everyone on the streets. And it’s just the reverence, you know, makes me cry.”
The Italian Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel returns after a 20-year hiatus Saturday and Sunday.
