Report: TCU, Dykes agree to multi-year extension

TCU and head coach Sonny Dykes have agreed to a multi-year extension, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Dykes was previously under contract through 2028, and his last listed salary was more than $7 million per year, Thamel adds. Details of the new contract have yet to be disclosed.

The 56-year-old holds a 36-17 record in four seasons as the Horned Frogs’ head coach. He was hired in November 2021 after a five-year run at SMU, and also has coached at California and Louisiana Tech during his 16-year head coaching career.

TCU went 9-4 last season, finishing the year off with a victory over USC in the Alamo Bowl. The Horned Frogs also ranked No. 25 in the final AP poll of the 2025 season.

Dykes’ best year with TCU came in 2022, when he led the program to a berth in the national championship game. His squad ultimately lost to Georgia, but the Horned Frogs’ 13 wins that campaign are the most in school history.

TCU will kick off the 2026 season against Bill Belichick and North Carolina on Aug. 29.
