A Starbucks in Boston’s South Station has been ordered to close after health inspectors confirmed a rodent infestation.
Amid the foot traffic and shops sits a recently-shuttered Starbucks. Our camera captured footage of a rodent inside Friday evening.
Boston Inspectional Services says it found rodent droppings throughout the store, along with “multiple violations of the Massachusetts Sanitary Code and the FDA Food Code.”
The city suspended the store’s food permit and ordered the business to stop food operations immediately.
“It’s pretty terrifying, because if that was happening at any of these other restaurants, I would never know, and I would be eating that food and not thinking twice about it,” said one person at South Station.
“There’s a lot of rats in the city, but you hope you can keep them out of a Starbucks,” another added.
Officials say the store must deep clean and sanitize the entire store, hire a licensed pest control company, throw away any contaminated food and correct all health code violations before it can reopen.
