Amherst offers free Summer Eats program for youth

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The town of Amherst is offering free meals for youth throughout the summer as part of a program sponsored by UMass Amherst Dining and the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District.

Amherst children and teens can visit locations offered by sponsors throughout the summer to eat free of charge, with no identification or registration required. All youth must be present to receive their meals and must eat on site.

UMass Amherst Dining is offering free summer meals through the Baby Berk Food Truck, Monday to Friday until August 15. Kids and teens can visit the following locations:

  • Olympia Oaks (85 Olympia Rd) from 12:00 p.m. to 12:15 p.m. 
  • University Village (990 North Pleasant St) from 12:25 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. 
  • Mill River Recreation (95 Montague Rd) Area from 1:00 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. 
  • Village Park (497 E Pleasant St) from 1:35 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. 
  • Meadow View (266 E Hadley Rd) from 2:05 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. 
  • Butternut Farms (12 Longmeadow Dr) from 2:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. 
  • Colonial Village (81 Belchertown Rd) from 3:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. 
  • Rolling Green (1 Rolling Green Dr) from 3:20 p.m. to 3:35 p.m. 

In addition, the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District is participating in the Summer Eats program for the first time this year. They will offer free meals Monday to Friday at the following locations and dates:

  • Amherst Regional Middle School (170 Chestnut Street)
    • June 23 – August 15  
    • Breakfast: 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  
    • Lunch: 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.  
  • Amherst Regional High School (21 Mattoon Street)
    • July 1 – August 8  
    • Breakfast: 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  
    • Lunch: 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

The Summer Eats programs are offered throughout the state in collaboration with Project Bread’s Child Nutrition Outreach Program and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. To learn more and find other meal sites in the area, visit projectbread.org.
