A popular family-owned restaurant in New York State is closing its doors after 23 years–but customers still have more than two months to get their final meals in.
Abeel’s Restaurant in Milton, N.Y. has been owned and operated by Tony Abeel and his wife Julie since 2002. Last week, the restaurant announced in a social media post that it will be shutting down on Sept. 30 so the Abeels can enjoy retirement.
“After 27 wonderful years in business, we’ve made the heartfelt decision to retire. Abeel’s Restaurant will officially close on September 30, 2025,” the post reads. “It’s time for us to begin a new chapter and enjoy more time with our families and friends.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support, conversations, and friendships we’ve shared with so many of you over the years. Your loyalty has meant the world to us — many of you have truly become part of our extended family.”
Abeel’s menu includes American classics like meatloaf, chicken wings, pizza, hamburgers, salmon and turkey pot pie, though the restaurant said it will be running with more limited options as it prepares to close.
“As we begin to wind down, we’ll be offering a reduced menu — but you can still expect the same great food and service,” Abeel’s said. “If you have any Abeel’s gift certificates, please use them before our closing date. We will not be issuing new ones.”
Abeel’s is closed on Monday and Tuesday, but is open Wednesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In its farewell announcement, the restaurant thanked its longtime customers and staff members.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making Abeel’s Restaurant a beloved part of this community. It’s been our pleasure to serve you,” Abeel’s said.
