(KRON) — A person was killed after a head-on crash Tuesday evening on Highway 84 near Livermore, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The crash happened around 6:19 p.m.
Highway 84 in both directions at I-680 and I-580 is currently closed, Caltrans posted on X at 7:40 p.m.. CHP estimates that the road will be closed until at least 9:30 p.m. According to CHP’s incident log, a gray Lexus and a blue Honda were involved in the crash.
The driver of the Honda died, and the driver of the Lexus is in critical condition. One lane in each direction was blocked as CHP investigates the crash.
A preliminary investigation reveals that the Lexus driver was going westbound on Highway 84 and lost control, CHP said. The Lexus went the wrong way into the eastbound lanes and crashed into the Honda head-on.
