Deion Sanders shocked the sports world on Monday at a press conference. The Colorado head coach and NFL legend announced that the undisclosed health issue he was dealing with was a cancerous tumor in his bladder.
Sanders and his family referenced his health over the last few months, but declined to go into specific details about the ailment he was dealing with.
The head coach was forced away from the recruiting trail as he attended several doctor visits and checkups, and now it becomes clear why he spent so much time away from the team.
Sanders held a press conference on Monday with his medical team to go over the news, and his doctors were able to state that he is “cured from the cancer.” Ahead of the press conference, Sanders sent a tweet that appears to speak to the adversity he was facing.
“Let’s learn to LOVE like we may not get another opportunity to do so provided we choose the right people to LOVE!,” Sanders said.
“Love is so special it’s so unique & so real. God is LOVE & his LOVE is unconditional. Let’s stop judging, stop hating & Let LOVE have its way!”

Sanders often posts inspirational and positive messages on social media, but this message seems to be especially timely given the seriousness of his health issue.
Sanders revealed in another video that he drafted a will in May, speaking to the gravity of his diagnosis.
“Mentally, emotionally, last night was tough, yesterday was tough, because I had to make a will. That’s not easy at all, to think that you may not be here,” the head coach said.
Sanders will now prepare for his third season as Colorado’s head coach. It’ll be the first year at the school without his sons Shilo and Shedeur, who have both moved on to the NFL. The Buffaloes will also be without two-way star and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, who was taken with the second overall pick in this year’s draft.
As the season opener draws closer for Colorado, it’s clear that Coach Prime is taking every moment, day and game seriously after his health scare.
