(KRON) — Two brothers were arrested last week during a Vallejo traffic stop after they gave false identification to officers, police said Thursday. According to authorities, the driver gave officers the name of his brother, the passenger, incorrectly believing him to have a “squeaky clean record.”
The brothers’ Honda Civic was stopped on July 25 in the 600 block of Basalt Drive for a missing front license plate, the Vallejo Police Department said. During the stop, the brother in the passenger seat opted to use a fake name and date of birth, while his brother, who was driving, used his name.
A records check sorted the brothers’ true identities and found that the driver was a convicted felon and had a suspended driver’s license, VPD said, while the passenger had an active warrant for domestic violence.
“The driver later admitted he used his brother’s identity because he believed his brother had a ‘squeaky clean record,’ but learned the brother had failed to tell him about the warrant for his arrest,” police said.

A search of the vehicle uncovered an unregistered firearm, according to authorities.
The brothers were arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail for multiple charges, including possession of a firearm and providing officers with false identification.
