Ex-Rams DL Brockers teases Donald return after Garrett trade

The possibility of Aaron Donald coming out of retirement to play alongside new Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett might be more than just wishful thinking.

Michael Brockers, a teammate of Donald’s from 2014-20, hinted at the 10-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle coming out of retirement in the aftermath of the Rams’ blockbuster acquisition of Garrett on Monday.

“I would say that I do have some information that might be considered as some knowledge that others might not have,” Brockers said on the “Locked on Rams” podcast. “I’m not gonna tell it all … but I will say this: My guy is staying ready so he doesn’t have to get ready.”

Brockers added that he’ll have more information to discuss later this week. When pressed by podcast co-host Gavin Carlson about the validity of his comments, Brockers responded, “I wouldn’t play.”

In May, Donald said on the “Not Just Football with Cam Heyward” podcast that he has “no urge to play football” anymore.

“Sometimes in the back of my head, I’ll be like, ‘Do I wanna go out there? Can I think about this?'” Donald added. “I’m like, ‘Nah man, I’m done.'”

Still, that hasn’t quieted speculation about a potential return of the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson even appeared to try luring Donald out of retirement Monday on X.

Donald and Garrett are two of the most dominant pass-rushers this century. No player recorded more sacks than Donald’s 111 during his time in the league from 2014-23, while Garrett is also first in sacks (125.5) since entering the NFL in 2017. The two have combined to win five of the last nine Defensive Player of the Year awards.
