Every year, Jeep heads to Moab to showcase some concepts. This year marks the 60th year the brand has done so.
Jeep has plenty to show for those Jeep fans who will invade the small town starting Sunday — the event carries through until April 5. That’s Easter Sunday, hence the name.
This year’s concepts include the Wrangler Anvil 715, which is a Wrangler modified for serious overlanding without adding “unnecessary” bulk. Another Wrangler concept is the Wrangler Buzzcut, which is a two-seater with “sporty” design and a quite obvious snorkel. The draw here is extra storage for more time spend in the backcountry.
The Grand Wagoneer Commander is a beefed-up Wagoneer that is meant to blend it in — at least in terms of body work. But the bigger, off-road-ready meats at each corner and the lighting rig on top give away the game. This beast is also meant to tow an off-road rig from one site to another.
The Wrangler Laredo concept simplifies the vehicle, using a Willys base. The Jeep XJ Pioneer is a lifted (two inches) 1984 Cherokee with a disconnecting sway bar, fender flares, rock rails, and 33-inch meats on 17-inch rims.
Finally, we come to the Jeep Gladiator Red Rock, which has a laundry list of items from Jeep Performance Parts, such as a steel front bumper.
While most of these concepts are showcase aftermarket parts, including those available from JPP, the Laredo suggests where Jeep may take that trim on the Wrangler next. We’d also note that both the Wrangler and Gladiator are getting a bit long in the tooth — some of what Jeep showcases here could make it onto the next generation of either model. To be clear, that’s speculation on my part, and not reporting, but it wouldn’t be surprising.
Jeep will be showcasing these vehicles to Easter Jeep Safari attendees in downtown Moab.
