Jenna Bush Hager is gearing up for parenting during the teenage years.
Bush Hager, 43, became emotional during the Wednesday, July 30, episode of Today With Jenna & Friends as she spoke about the Gracie Abrams concert she attended with her husband, Henry Chase Hager, and their three kids the night before.
“We were out on the town,” she told cohost Tyra Banks, adding that the show was “so much fun.” However, Bush Hager admitted that she got misty-eyed during the concert because she was “going through something” with her family.
“Obviously, my oldest is going into middle school. For whatever reason, we sat down, and — think about how embarrassing this is as a child — and just seeing how excited they were for her, I started crying,” she explained. “I was like, this is so beautiful, to see this concert through their eyes!”

The TV host added that she realized this “could be the last time” her eldest daughter, Mila, 12, who is in seventh grade, is “cool with sitting next to her mom at a concert.”
“In a few years, she’s going to be going with all of her buddies,” Bush Hager continued.
“And not Mommy,” Banks, 51, interjected, noticing that Bush Hager was “getting teary now” as they reflected on the concert.

“I just was thinking, like, time is going so fast, and she’ll sit next to me and hold my hand a little,” Bush Hager added. “[My husband was] like, ‘Don’t cry, she’s humiliated!’”
Banks responded, “Those are the moments. Experiences are so important, because you’re going to relive that over and over and over.”
The couple also share daughter Poppy, 9, and son Hal, 5. Meanwhile, Banks shares son York, 9, with ex-boyfriend Erik Asla.
Back in April, Bush Hager revealed that she had a similar realization about Mila growing up and wanting to spend time with other people while celebrating Halloween a few years ago.

“We’d always had Halloween with our family and family friends,” she explained on Today. “Mila, my daughter was like, ‘I want to go trick-or-treating with other people.’ At first, I was like, ‘Wait — what? Like, how dare you.’ I realized: I’m not going to be in all my kids’ memories … we should make our kids feel confident so they can go and be their own people.”
In 2023, Bush Hager gushed about her role as a mom and said it’s the most important job she has.
“It goes so fast,” she told the outlet of raising her kids. “So I want every moment with them to be precious. And I want them to feel my presence not just to think that ‘Mommy’s home and she’s tired again.’”

As for her style of parenting, Bush Hager and her twin sister, Barbara Bush, exclusively told Us Weekly in March that they were both heavily inspired by their parents, former President of the United States George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush.
“I would say it was sort of, like, the laissez-faire parenting of the ‘80s and ‘90s,” Barbara, who shares 3-year-old daughter Cora Georgia and 11-month-old son Edward with husband Craig Coyne, said. “Our parents were very around, but we had a lot of freedom in terms of playing outside and exploring our neighborhood and just kind of being out and about in a, obviously, safe way. But it was before cell phones and before the constant connection and communication that we all have now.”
She added, “The world is quite different now. I aspire to be that type of parent in this world.”
