Kevin Jonas is opening up about a problem a lot of famous, rich people have encountered over the course of their career: nearly going broke.
The 37-year-old Jonas Brothers crooner and his brothers Joe and Nick appeared on Lewis Howes’ The School of Greatness podcast and really opened up about the lessons he’s learned when it comes to money, fame and success over the last 20 years.
Kevin didn’t sugarcoat it. The singer shared he nearly went broke nine years ago.
“I’ve seen it both ways, right? I’ve seen the beginning of the success to financial success, not know what money really was and understanding it, to not having it and losing almost all of it,” he shared.
The brutally honest answer caught Howes by surprised, prompting him to ask how long ago Kevin endured this huge financial lesson. Kevin shared he lost nearly all of his money, and was left with about 10 percent of what he was once worth. Kevin went on to share this all went down nine years ago.
“I invested in a bunch of property and doing other things and I was building at the time. Sadly, it wasn’t the right partnership, you know what I’m saying?” Kevin said. “I can’t really get too much into it, but the sad part of it is I’ve learned a lot of lessons in that, and thankfully for life, in general, we have a second shot and a bite of the apple; the band coming back together.”
Kevin said he never wanted to learn this lesson. But the fact is he did, and he’s come out of it better prepared when it comes to his financial decisions. Ultimately, Kevin’s thankful he got a second chance.
Kevin, Joe and Nick formed the Jonas Brothers in 2005 and enjoyed immense success as a super popular boy band. That all came to an end in 2013 when the crew split up.
They reunited in 2019 and released their fifth studio album, Happiness Begins, which includes the group’s massive hits “Sucker” and “Cool.” Soon after, the group embarked on a huge tour.
The group will release their sixth studio album, Greetings From Your Hometown, on Aug. 8.
