Machine Gun Kelly’s Hilarious Football Blunder Gets Roasted by Pat McAfee

On the same day that ESPN announced Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), also known as Colson Baker, would be the featured artist of its 2025 college football anthem, the musician made the media rounds, including a stop on the Pat McAfee Show. While MGK’s sit-down with McAfee featured several topics, one specific word blunder left the artist wishing he could hit the rewind button.

While MGK has played in front of sold-out arenas and made too many public appearances to even count, he’s also a well-documented Cleveland sports fan. Baker even attended the 2013 NBA Draft Lottery alongside Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and his son Nick.

However, while discussing his own sports history with McAfee, MGK slipped up after responding to the host calling him a “big sports guy” and Baker fielding a question about what sports he played.

“I was a tight end, I scored one football. I mean one–” MGK said, attempting to fix his error.

McAfee and company jumped all over it, though, with the host responding quickly,

“Let’s not do that, don’t do that s***,” McAfee joked. “Let’s not put a microphone in front of him at any of these sporting events, Jesus.”

“You hit a grand slam in that football game,” McAfee continued to joke.

The musician took the jokes in stride and laughed it off while poking fun at himself in the process, replying, “I scored one touchdown, oh my God, I scored one football is crazy.”

While the lighthearted back-and-forth between McAfee and Machine Gun Kelly drew plenty of comical reactions from fans, there was also a lot of feedback on the singer’s new song, “Don’t Wait Run Fast,” being dubbed ESPN’s new college football anthem.

Some fans were on board with the song off MGK’s new album, Lost Americana, while others pushed back on the decision by ESPN.

While several fans commented that they liked the song and were fired up by its use, others responded with comments like “whoever thought to use an MGK song should be fired,” as one fan said. One other fan echoed their displeasure, calling it the “worst [song] yet” from ESPN.

Regardless of the split feelings from fans, college football lovers will want to get used to hearing “Don’t Wait Run Fast,” as it’s going to be blaring through televisions across the country. Not only will the new MGK song be featured in commercials starting now, but it’ll only ramp up once Iowa State vs. Kansas State kicks off ESPN’s 2025-26 college football coverage on Saturday, August 23.
