A man was fatally shot by police in an east Colorado Springs neighborhood on Friday afternoon after he fired at them as they tried to arrest him, officials said.
The Colorado Springs Police Department‘s violent offender task force and tactical unit was searching for a “wanted suspect” in the 1100 block of Branding Iron Circle at 2:48 p.m. when they found the man and tried to contact him in his vehicle, the agency said on social media.

Department officials did not say what charges the man was accused of.
The man refused to leave the vehicle, and after officers saw he had a gun, he fired at least one round at police.
At least one officer returned fire, and police arrested him and started emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers or other community members were injured in the shooting, police officials said. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.
