The Atlanta Braves are designating outfielder Alex Verdugo for assignment to clear a roster spot for the returning Jurickson Profar, sources told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
Verdugo slashed .239/.296/.289 with 10 doubles and 12 RBIs for the Braves after they signed him to a one-year, $1.5-million deal in March. The veteran outfielder’s .585 OPS (65 OPS+) was a career low.
Profar is returning to the majors after serving an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.
The Braves signed the 32-year-old to a three-year, $42-million deal in January.
