Missing water monitor lizard in Massachusetts

WEBSTER, Mass. (WWLP) – A missing 5-foot water monitor lizard, which is illegal to possess in Massachusetts without proper authorization, was last spotted in Worcester County.

The Massachusetts Environmental Police say the water monitor was last spotted near Blueberry Lane in Webster on Friday night. It is described as approximately five feet long with black with white scarring. It is not aggressive, but police say those who see it should keep a safe distance.

Webster Police and Animal Control searched in the area of the homealong with the use of drones, checking nearby pools on Friday. They say that these types of lizards are known to travel.

Missing water monitor lizard in Massachusetts

The reptile eats dead rodents, not landscaping, and is not known to attack humans or dogs/cats. It loves the sun, swimming holes, and climbing trees. If spotted, authorities are urging the public not to approach and to contact the Massachusetts Environmental Police at 800-632-8075, extension 1.
