BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – Six men from Belchertown climbed to the top of a famous mountain in Tanzania, Africa.
Dozens of student athletes join law enforcement for a game of basketball in Springfield
The group of father and son duos reached the summit of the nearly 20,000-foot Mt. Kilimanjaro after a six-day hike. Among the six hikers are Dave and Cameron Burnham, Geoff and Ryan Gould, and Ken Riley, who all live in Belchertown. There’s also Ben Miron, a former Belchertown resident now residing in Florida.
Due to the High elevations, each had to take medication ahead of the hike to prevent symptoms like nausea.
This hike is all thanks to the support of a tour group called ‘Climb Kili’, made up of 24 people, which helped to set up tents, provide meals, and more each day, so all they had to do was focus on hiking.
22News spoke to the wife and mother of Dave and Cameron Burnham about how it felt to see this milestone be achieved. “Most, you know, challenging as far as bringing gear for five different climate zones. You know, they’ve gone through rainforest up to like icy, you know, negative degrees. So it’s just incredible to see their determination, you know, and their perseverance for continuing to do these adventures together and making memories together,” said Danielle Burnham.
Two other men, Jason Cust, formerly of Springfield, who now resides in NYC, and Alex Santos, who resides in Florida, also joined this group on this hike. All of them are set to return this Thursday. And this wasn’t their first hiking challenge; in years past, they climbed Olympic National Park in Washington, the Laugavegur trail in Iceland, the Tour du Mont Blanc through France, Switzerland, and Italy.
