Recent data shows that over 5 billion people use the internet on a daily basis from a global perspective.
And, with remote jobs becoming more common, having high-speed internet is a priority for many.
Well, the internet speed record has been broken again. According to James Busby of Dexerto, Japan set a mind-blowing record for internet speeds recently.
“Japan has broken the world record for internet speed, hitting a mind-blowing 1.02 petabits per second. That’s about 1 million gigabits every second or roughly 3.5 million times faster than the average U.S. internet speed, according to TechRadar Pro,” Busby wrote.
Now, the average person might not understand the terminology, but Diandra Paramitha of Seasia broke it down in simple terms.
“The astonishing speed of 1.02 petabits per second translates to over one million gigabytes per second, theoretically capable of downloading Netflix’s entire catalog 30 times over in just one second, representing a quantum leap in optical fiber communication technology.”
Yes, really. Also, it can download games such as Warzone in a flash, so it is far above anything we have seen up until now.
The new internet speeds are unreal, and faster than anything in the United States, showing just how far advanced Japan is at the moment.
Busby also mentioned that these speeds are not made available to the public, at least not yet, and were created using lab equipment.
Still, the technology is improving rapidly right in front of our eyes.
