The officer advised the driver of the vehicle to stay in the car, but he ignored the request and exited. As additional officers arrived in the area, they observed the driver to be unsteady on his feet.

West Springfield Police said that after speaking with the driver, identified as 25-year-old Leeony Tessier of West Springfield, as well as the passengers, it was determined that Tessier was traveling south on Riverdale Street as the police cruiser drove north on Riverdale Street approaching Ashley Avenue. Tessier suddenly turned left, despite the posted ‘No Turn/No U-Turn’ signage, colliding with the cruiser.

Police also noticed a bottle of Corona beer in the driver’s cup holder, and Tessier admitted to drinking several Coors Lights. A Standardized Field Sobriety Test was conducted, which Tessier failed.

The officer involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was brought to the hospital to be treated, and has since been released.
