Motorcyclists battling urban pollution may soon have a new high-tech ally. Madrid-based startup Zyon has developed a modular motorcycle helmet equipped with a multi-layer air filtration system designed to shield riders from harmful airborne pollutants, allergens, and fumes without compromising on comfort or connectivity.
A Breath of Fresh Air for Urban Riders
At the heart of Zyon’s innovation is its patented four-layer filter, neatly integrated into the helmet’s chin guard. The layers include:
Riders can toggle between three airflow modes using a bright red button on the chin bar, tailoring ventilation based on conditions. A companion mobile app monitors local air quality and notifies users when it’s time to replace the filter, typically every one to three months.

More Than Just Clean Air
Zyon’s helmet goes beyond filtering smog. It packs several smart safety and comfort features, including:
- Automatic emergency alerts via crash detection sensors.
- USB-C charging with up to 18 hours of battery life.
- A motion-sensing rear light that activates during braking.
- A retractable sun visor and a flip-up chin guard for modular use.
- MIPS protection system for rotational impact safety.
- ECE 22.06 P/J certification, meeting Europe’s latest standards.
Constructed from a lightweight fibre shell, the helmet balances tech integration with a clean, aerodynamic design. It’s offered in five colors and six sizes, and each pre-order kit includes 12 filters, a cleaning kit, and a helmet bag.
Premium Price, Premium Competition
Priced at US$935 (approx. RM4,347.00), Zyon’s helmet faces stiff competition from established modular heavyweights like the Shoei Neotec 3 and Schuberth E2. While those may not filter urban air, they offer top-tier crash protection with long-standing reputations.
Zyon, however, is betting on its unique feature set and clean-air promise to set it apart. With over 4,000 pre-orders already logged, the company plans to deliver its first batch by year’s end. Whether it lives up to its promise, especially at this premium price, will depend on real-world feedback once riders take it to the streets.
