Who was more responsible for the New England Patriots’ dynasty: Tom Brady or Bill Belichick? According to Brady, there’s no point in debating.
“It’s just a dumb analogy,” Brady said during an episode of the “New Heights” podcast published Wednesday. “It’s like, what’s more important, the left tackle or the center?”
He continued: “There’s nobody more important to winning Monday through Saturday than the head coach. And there’s nobody more important on Sunday than the quarterback.”
Brady praised his former coach, calling him the “greatest head coach in terms of preparing a team to win.”
The Patriots found unprecedented success under the Belichick and Brady partnership. The duo appeared in nine Super Bowls together, winning six of them.
“There’s no way I could have been the player I was without him,” Brady added. “We pushed each other to get the best out of each other. He’s incredible. Anyone who played underneath him would say the same thing.”
Brady left the Patriots after the 2019 campaign and went on to win his seventh Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following season. Belichick’s New England tenure ended in January 2024, and he began serving as the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels in December of that year. He recorded 333 wins in the NFL – including playoff victories – only 14 shy of Don Shula’s all-time record.
