Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is a fan of the team’s new offensive system, but he’s far from considering himself an expert.
“I’ve still got a long way to go,” he said, according to ESPN’s John Keim.
Daniels added, “Just learning the new offense, terminology, why we’re attacking this play, what we want to do on this play – things like that.”
The Commanders made a change at offensive coordinator after the 2025 season, promoting assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough to replace Kliff Kingsbury. The team and Kingsbury mutually agreed to part ways after a two-year run.
Blough, 30, is projected to implement more under-center plays while pulling back on the no-huddle system Kingsbury ran. Washington’s 61.8% no-huddle rate over the last two seasons led the NFL by a wide margin, according to statrankings.com.
Daniels is coming off an injury-riddled season in which he only played seven games. He racked up 1,540 yards with 10 touchdowns and five turnovers and ranked 29th out of 38 quarterbacks who had at least 180 pass attempts in EPA/dropback, according to TruMedia.
The 25-year-old’s disappointing campaign came on the heels of winning Offensive Rookie of the Year and leading Washington to its first conference championship game since the 1991 season.
“I’m done talking about last year,” Daniels added. “Last year is last year; I’m moving on to this season and whatever happened last year, happened last year. It can’t do anything for me; I’ll just continue to get better.”
The Commanders will wrap up their mandatory minicamp June 18.
