Hurricane Genevieve Becomes the Eastern Pacific's First Category 5 in Years

Hurricane Genevieve has rapidly strengthened into one of the most powerful storms of the 2026 hurricane season, becoming the first Category 5 hurricane in the Eastern Pacific in two years. Fortunately, forecasters say the storm is expected to remain well offshore, though it will still create dangerous surf and rip currents along parts of Mexico’s Pacific coast.
