NHL announces 1st, 2nd All-Star teams

The NHL unveiled its 2025-26 first and second All-Star teams Friday. The Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, and Tampa Bay Lightning led the way with two representatives apiece.

The honors are voted on by members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.

2nd team

Hart Trophy winner Kucherov received 196 out of a possible 197 first-place votes for right wing. Martin Necas got one first-place vote, yet it wasn’t enough to earn him a second-team nod.

McDavid narrowly beat out MacKinnon for the first-team center nod, receiving 823 voting points to MacKinnon’s 723. It’s the sixth first-team All-Star honor of McDavid’s 11-year career. San Jose Sharks phenom Macklin Celebrini finished third, receiving two first-place votes and 11 second-place votes.

Thompson earned the second-team goalie nod despite finishing fourth in Vezina Trophy voting. The Vezina is voted on by NHL general managers, not the PHWA.
