Report: Seahawks make Witherspoon offer worth upward of $30M per year

The Seattle Seahawks made cornerback Devon Witherspoon an offer that’s worth “upwards of $30 million” per year, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

That value would put Witherspoon among the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league. Los Angeles Rams corner Trent McDuffie currently sets the benchmark with a $31 million average annual value, while Sauce Gardner of the Indianapolis Colts is just behind him ($30.1M per year).

Witherspoon’s negotiations are reportedly tied to contract talks between the New England Patriots and their star cornerback, Christian Gonzalez, as the pair are represented by the same agency. Witherspoon is further along in discussions than Gonzalez is with the Patriots, Rapoport adds.

Drafted fifth overall in 2023, Witherspoon has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons. He was a key part of the Seahawks’ defense that won Super Bowl LX, recording four pass breakups, one sack, and three quarterback hits during the playoff run.

Seattle already signed wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba, another 2023 first-round pick, to a four-year, $168.6-million extension earlier this offseason.
