Howard University notified hundreds of first-year incoming students that their spots for the upcoming semester were no longer being held. This has left students like 17-year-old Keana Johnson scrambling for alternatives. Johnson, living in a New York City shelter, is considering the University of the District of Columbia, which has extended its application deadline. In response, other schools like the University of the District of Columbia and the State University of New York and City University of New York are opening or extending applications for admission deadlines to former Howard students scrambling to find campuses for the fall.
