White House Officials Hint That VC-25A 92-9000 Just Flew its Last Mission as Air Force One

Air Force One VC-25A 92-9000 Last Flight

White House staffers have posted sentimental tributes to the jet that President Trump used as Air Force One for the 2026 G7 Summit in France, hinting that 92-9000 may have just completed its final scheduled Presidential sortie.

Steven Cheung, Assistant to the President & White House Director of Communications, posted on X/Twitter after VC-25A 92-9000 landed at Joint Base Andrews with the quote “Well done, good and faithful servant”, followed by “The Last Ride”.

He was joined by Dan Scavino, White House Deputy Chief of Staff, who said more directly “I have been fortunate to fly around the world on this iconic plane for 5 1/2 years — of the 35 years it has been serving U.S. Presidents… THANK YOU… AIR FORCE ONE 2900”.

The Aviationist has reached out to the U.S. Air Force for an official comment, but these social media posts would seem to confirm that the venerable 747-200B-derived jet – which entered service in 1990 – will now be withdrawn. Whether this means 92-9000 is set for immediate retirement from the U.S. Air Force, or if the jet will simply be relegated to a backup role for the foreseeable future is currently unclear.

82-8000, which is the older of the two aircraft, is coming towards the final stages of a major overhaul and is likely intended to step in to fill 92-9000’s place. 92-9000 was notably the airframe in use when a technical issue forced Air Force One to return to Andrews, which saw President Trump complete the scheduled trip to Europe in a C-32A.

The VC-25 Bridge aircraft – which was donated to President Trump by the state of Qatar – is being prepared to serve as the President’s executive jet until the bespoke but delayed VC-25B aircraft are ready. This interim jet recently broke cover in its new paint scheme and made a nighttime flight to Andrews without transmitting Mode S or ADS-B.

Given the rapid transformation of this jet into a Presidential aircraft, it undoubtedly does not include all of the advanced self-protection or communications capabilities of the VC-25B. Because of this it has been speculated that the bridge aircraft will be designated for travel within the U.S. only, with international travel still provided by VC-25A or C-32 aircraft.

President Trump has said to have considered using the bridge aircraft for the first time for an upcoming visit to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota on Jul. 3, part of the scheduled celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Alternatively, it has been speculated that the bridge aircraft could form a centrepiece of the planned Jul. 4 flyover in Washington D.C.
