Another Week of Long Days and Good Weather

Sorry about the delay since my last post. When the weather is nice in the summer, I do longer rides and don’t always remember to post about them. We have had some hot days (up into the high 90s F) but it’s still pleasant in the morning.

I finished my Strava July distance challenge with a total of 1674 km (1038 miles), just over the 1000 miles I was shooting for. I wanted to keep motivated for August so signed up for the distance challenge again. The difference is I will keep my electric assist level low so my legs do most of the work. I also signed up for the “Gran Fondo” challenge which is to ride more than 100 km in a day. I’ll take my first shot at that this weekend.

Below are the images I took on my group ride last Tuesday, which was a nice cruise up into the hills Southwest of Morgan Hill, stopping at the Gilroy Sports Complex, then heading home in the valley on Santa Teresa Boulevard.

Leaving Morgan Hill South on Santa Teresa Boulevard
Heading up into the hills on Day Road
Turning onto Burchell Ave
Still on Burchell with Gilroy’s Gavilan Hills up ahead
Just Crossed Highway 152 from Burchell, This is the start of Gilroy’s extensive bike path system. It has a humble unpaved beginning…
…But soon becomes nicely paved
Our break stop at Gilroy Sports Complex
The bike path has merged us onto the road, heading north on Santa Teresa Boulevard
This is as urban as it gets, crossing 1st Street in Gilroy. There are a few stop lights to navigate up ahead.
Now it gets rural again north of Gilroy and we’re headed for home
