Guerrero in concussion protocol after taking knee to head in win over Yankees

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left Friday’s 3-1 win over the New York Yankees after being hit in the head by an opposing player’s knee during a slide into third base.

Guerrero scored on the play but didn’t come out to play defense the following inning. Charles McAdoo replaced him at first base.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Guerrero is in concussion protocol after experiencing “a bit of a headache,” according to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.

“You’ve always got to be careful. We’ll see how he wakes up tomorrow,” Schneider added.

Guerrero is in the midst of a down year in which he’s slashed .263/.337/.356 with seven home runs and 47 RBIs in 115 games.
