Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission has launched a Probate, Unclaimed Monies Awareness and Investor Clinic to help investors and beneficiaries recover unclaimed dividends and other dormant investment assets. The initiative is designed to address the challenges families face when trying to access shares, dividends and financial investments inherited after the death of a loved one.
SEC Director-General, Dr Emomotimi Agama, says the investor clinic is intended to bridge the gap between people’s legal entitlement to inherited investments and their ability to access those assets.
Nkechinyelu Okoye, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Meristem Registrars and Probate Services Limited, joins us to explain why dividends and investments often remain unclaimed and how investors and families can take steps to prevent this.
