Under-construction barn collapses in Pembroke, seriously injuring 3 workers

Three construction workers were seriously hurt in a roughly 25-foot fall when a barn in Pembroke, Massachusetts, collapsed on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The workers are expected to survive, though one was trapped by the collapsed structure and had to be flown to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston to be treated, according to the Pembroke Fire Department.

The incident on Valley Street was reported about 5:04 p.m., and firefighters called to the scene found the three seriously injured workers. The two who weren’t pinned by the structure were taken to South Shore Hospital by ambulance, officials said.

The 80-by-100-foot barn’s wooden frame was seen on the ground after the incident, which fire officials said was being investigated by Pembroke police and building inspection, as well as the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

It wasn’t immediately clear what might have led to the collapse.
