The Chicago White Sox acquired right-hander Luis Castillo in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for reliever Seranthony Domínguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith, they announced Saturday.
The White Sox took on all of Castillo’s remaining contract, a source told Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. The 33-year-old is owed around $7.25 million for the rest of 2026, will earn $22.75 million in 2027, and has a $25-million vesting option for 2028 if he accumulates 180 innings.
Castillo owns a 5.06 ERA with 7.8 K/9 over 99 2/3 innings (17 starts) this season. He’s authored a career 3.65 ERA with 1.19 WHIP and 9.4 K/9 with the Mariners and Cincinnati Reds across 10 years.
The three-time All-Star joins a White Sox rotation that includes breakout starters Davis Martin and Sean Burke.
Domínguez posted a 4.10 ERA with 10.8 K/9 and 12 saves over 42 appearances with the White Sox after signing a two-year, $20-million contract in the offseason. The right-hander is still owed $10 million next year and has a $2-million buyout on a $12-million option for 2028.
Jones hasn’t played in the majors this season. His best year came in 2023, when he went deep 20 times with 20 stolen bases and a .931 OPS in 106 contests to finish fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting with the Colorado Rockies.
Smith was the 15th-ranked prospect in Chicago’s minor-league system, according to MLB Pipeline. The 23-year-old has 22 homers with 58 RBIs and a 1.037 OPS over 78 games between three levels in 2026.
